Evidence of strong effects of the 11 Be halo structure on reaction processes at energies around the Coulomb barrier

چکیده
The collision induced by the three Beryllium isotopes, Be, on Zn target were investigated at Ec.m. ≈ 1.4 the Coulomb barrier. Elastic scattering angular distributions were measured for the Be collisions whereas, in the Be case the quasielastic scattering angular distribution was obtained. A strong damping of the quasielastic cross-section was observed in the Be case, especially in the angular range around the Coulomb-nuclear interference peak. In this latter case a large total-reaction cross-section is found, more than a factor of two larger than the ones extracted in the reactions induced by the non-halo Beryllium isotopes. A large contribution to the total-reaction cross-section in the Be case could be attributed to transfer and/or break-up events. 11 present address: LPC-ENSICAEN, IN2P3-CNRS and Université de Caen, France 12 present address: Departamento de Fysica Atomica, Molecular y Nuclear, Universidad Complutense,Madrid, Spain 13 present address: Nuclear Science Division, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Berkeley, USA International Nuclear Physics Conference 2010 (INPC2010) IOP Publishing Journal of Physics: Conference Series 312 (2011) 082020 doi:10.1088/1742-6596/312/8/082020 Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd 1

متن کاملElastic scattering and reaction mechanisms of the halo nucleus 11Be around the Coulomb barrier.
Collisions induced by (9,10,11)Be on a 64Zn target at the same c.m. energy were studied. For the first time, strong effects of the 11Be halo structure on elastic-scattering and reaction mechanisms at energies near the Coulomb barrier are evidenced experimentally. The elastic-scattering cross section of the 11Be halo nucleus shows unusual behavior in the Coulomb-nuclear interference peak angular...
متن کاملFusion and Direct Reactions of Halo Nuclei at Energies around the Coulomb Barrier
The present understanding of reaction processes involving light unstable nuclei at energies around the Coulomb barrier is reviewed. The effect of coupling to direct reaction channels on elastic scattering and fusion is investigated, with the focus on halo nuclei, for which such effects are expected to be most important. With the aim of resolving possible ambiguities in the terminology a short l...
متن کاملElastic scattering and heavy residue production in the collisions Li+Zn around the Coulomb barrier
The study of nuclear collisions involving halo or, more in general, weakly bound nuclei at energies around the Coulomb barrier had a considerable interest in the last decade, since the peculiar structure of the colliding nuclei can deeply affect the reaction mechanisms (see e.g. [1–3] and refs. therein). We measured elastic scattering angular distributions and heavy residue production cross sec...
متن کاملAnalytical potential for the elastic scattering of light halo nuclei in the Coulomb field of heavy targets
Light halo nuclei are exotic and weakly-bound systems that have attracted much interest during the past decades [1]. In particular neutron-rich nuclei near the dripline provide a new path for studying nuclear matter and correlations at low densities. In these nuclei, the halo is often formed by one or several loosely attached (valence) neutrons with binding energies of less than 1 MeV and with ...
